Have you ever wondered how people would see your website if they were color blind?

Now you probably don’t think about this unless you, yourself are color blind or you have a close friend or family member who has this.

But did you know that according to ColourBlindAwareness.org 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women are color blind! So that’s a lot of people who are looking at your website who are color blind.

Did you know they have free tests on the internet that you can take to see if you are color blind? Just Google “Color Blind Test.” (Note: you should never only trust the results of a test on the internet.  Check with your eye doctor if you have a concern.)

So a good idea is to make your site accessible to those folks.

But if you’re not color blind, how will you know what your site looks like so you know if you need to make any changes?

Well, you’re in luck because there is a free tool that you can add on as a browser extension that will allow you to view your website as someone who is color blind. (If you don’t know what a browser extension is, it’s a little app that you add to your browser so you can do extra stuff.  Read more about browser extensions here.

How it Looks After Installing the Chrome Extension:

Here are a few example screenshots from my Graphics Creation Workshop (www.graphicscreationworkshop.com/enroll) enrollment page.

Here is how it normally looks.

Here is how it would look for someone with achromatopsia. (Folks with achromatopsia cannot see any color at all and it affects their vision in other ways also.)

Here is how it looks for someone with Protanopia. (Protanopia is the most common form of color-blindness, they can’t see red, causing a mix up of yellows, greens, and reds. )

Here is how it looks for someone with Tritanomaly. (Tritanomaly means you can’t see blue.)
