Yes, I know that Google Plus has been around for a while now, but I’m not the kinda gal who always jumps onto the newest and hottest thing right away. I like to wait a while before I embrace something. And with Google+ I’m not super excited yet. However, I am a big fan of many of the Google products (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar) as I use them all the time in my business.
Anyways, I’ve been pretty happy hanging out on Facebook (http://www.Facebook.com/christinahillsbiz) but I found these two videos that I thought I’d share with you about Google Plus. It simplifies what Google Plus is and what Google Circles are.
This first video explains what Google Plus is.
This second video explains what Google Circles are…
What do you think of Google Plus? Share your thoughts below
I’m glad Facebook has some competition. I hate when one company monopolizes everything, it takes the control away from the consumer.
Joseph,
I think it’s because of Google Plus, that Facebook has been making so many changes lately. They are keeping Facebook on it’s toes, and that’s a good thing
I’ve signed up a created circles. That part makes sense. But what should I be DOING with it besides managing the circles? Should I be posting in the same way I do with Twitter and Facebook? If so, does my posting content have to be unique to Google +? I’m just not sure what do do with it now that I’m on it. Thanks.
Google circles makes it easy to post different content to different circles. No it does not have to be unique. I will post my same content to Facebook, Twitter, and Google+
Because, different people are hanging out in different social media spots
Only problem I see with using such social networking sites is the privacy issue. Any data you share in this social networking medium, its no longer your data. A copy is stored on Google’s social media servers and is accessible by third party’s without your permission.
I would be very careful what you share on these types of sites, including Facebook, which is notorious for selling your personal data to commercial advertisers…
Lee,
That is absolutely the truth! One thing I see all the time is people have their birth year public on Facebook. No need to display that.
Yes, you must protect your private data as much as possible. I just wish that Facebook didn’t make it so confusing!
I think those guys at Google are smart. They figured out what everyone hates about Facebook and improved upon it. Got to hand it to them! They’re going to give Facebook a run for its money now. Already there are internet marketers giving webinars on how to use Google Plus to market your products. Already! And Google Plus is not even 2 years old yet!
Jennifer,
Yes because Google is behind Google Plus, people are paying attention to it. The circles are a big improvement over Facebook. And now Facebook is changing the profiles, friends, and timeline in reaction. The one thing about technology is that it always changes!
😉
Thank you posting videos and make some sense on what Google plus is how to manage circles.I am still exploring on how to use Google plus
I’m still learning how to use Google + too! I find it colder feeling than Facebook, that’s why I’m on Facebook more. But I love the “circles” concept
Christina,
Your insights are always appreciated. Thanks! It’s all helpful.
Ken
Thank you – I was just setting myself up earlier and loved these cool and easy-to-understand videos. I even asked if anyone had any tips 🙂 I am not a fan of Facebook for many reasons. Now it looks like Google+ has solved my major complaint. And I already think of my life in terms of circles of friends, family, clients, etc. How fun to easily share the right info with the right people online – finally!
Maiya,
Glad you like Google+ !
I just wish they would warm up the user interface a bit. I don’t like the black bar at the top.
Oh, and watch for Google Ads that will appear after they get a large following. Facebook did it.
😉
I am curious how google is going to cater to the “fan” or business pages that Facebook seems to be monopolizing – it’s seems as if a Facebook page that is totally customized and SEO’d and Email Capturing is an absolute requirement for a successful social media campaign
Thanks for the info.
I have always used the LISTS in Facebook. Don’t they work just like the circles?
However…never know if my status updates are going to ALL the people on my list. My daughter says no. ??
Linda,
I use lists too, but now things are different with Facebook, so I may drop some of my lists.
I’m also waiting for the Facebook app to work well on my cell phone
Thanks, Christina, for leading us to these videos. I’m not sure that I want to climb in yet because I’m still mad at FB for changing something or a lot every week. I like the circles concept, but I don’t know that it will save any time or energy. I’m liking Twitter a lot more than I ever have!
Bea,
I HATE that Facebook is changing so much, especially the privacy settings.
Yes, I have a blog post brewing in me on Twitter…
Lists on FB used to work something like (but not exactly) Google circles. Then FB changed that feature.
