It always amazes me, how many business owners do NOT have a Gravatar.com account. It’s free and you set it up once. It’s the system that WordPress uses to pull little photos of you when you leave a comment on a WordPress site. It can be your own blog, or any WordPress site where comments are visible. See the Image below that explains:
Those are all Spam comments, and they are easy to spot, because there is no picture with the comment.
Compare it to the following image:
Those are all real people, because they have their photos showing up. Using Gravatar.com will make it VERY for you as the business owner to spot spam comments vs. real comments on your blog. Here is a video from Gravatar.com that explains well! After you get a Gravatar.com account, you can leave a comment below and see if your image shows up!
Leaving a comment to see how my gravatar looks.
Heather,
woo hoo! Your pic shows up great! You may want to crop it in a little, so we can see your face more. But it’s great as it is
🙂
Great tool. Should save time. Thanks Christina Hills!
Ken,
it totally saves time!
I love you…
Thanks for the tip. I updated my Gravatar Account with all the other links too. Very Helpful.
Rick,
Looks great! yes you can add multiple email addresses too
Do you get spammed if you add email links to your Gravatar account?
Karen,
Not sure what you mean by email links. There are website links but not email links. You have an email address that you add. Go ahead and go to http://www.gravatar.com and open a free account and try it
Done….Thanks!
Craig,
You are rockin it! 😉
Let’s see if it works! Thanks for this info!
How about now? 🙂
Clair, My blog is set for comments moderated, that’s why there was a delay before your comment showed up. But yer lookin pretty 😉
I went to sign up and forgot I had an account! But forgot my password. Resetting it now.
Monique, looking good!
Thanks!
I had to edit my previous image..
I couldn’t for the life of me remember how to do it!
Hmm..still displaying the old one..weird.
Jessamina,
Sometimes there is a delay before the new one shows up. So you just have to give it time. And I think the new image will only show up when you leave new comments.
Thanks for the reminder.
Scott,
Nice to finally see your face 🙂
Let’s see how this shows up. Thanks for the video.
Joy, Showing up great!
Will be interesting to see if I show up–I think I do…
Barbara, nope not yet. If you just set it up, give it a couple of hours and come back and post a comment again
Thanks Christina. Good advice – as always.
Oops, wrong email for my gravatar.
Christina,
Does this mean that I need to set up a new gravatar account for each email?
Linda,
No, you can use the same Gravatar account and add many email addresses to it. I use about 5 different email addresses, and they are all linked to one gravatar. 🙂
I have had a gravatar for a long time BUT…. it didn’t dawn on me to add a comment so that when I do post it shows who I am and what I do. Thank you Christina for showing me what I have missed! 🙂
Deborah,
yes it will keep you from looking like a spammer when you post on other blogs. That way a biz owner will see you have a photo, and that you are a real person. It also helps in communication, cause we can see your smiling face!
Thanks Christina! I wanted to test if it picks up the new email I added to my Gravatar account.
Bobbye, yep! picked it up
Thanks Christina! Just checking to see if it works…
Joan, looking good…. 🙂
Okay…but will I be able to change the picture?
Cyndy,
cute coffee cup! 😉
I’ve never seen my gravitar photo so hope it shows up.
Kem,
not quite yet
I seem to have a gravatar account. Wondering if it works . . . ?
Looks like a yes. Thanks for the reminder!
Penny, yes that is a big YES! 🙂
Wonderful. Next I would like to learn how to protect my website from spammers.
Joel,
You can get the plugin Akismet.com (it will stop spammers), but it’s not free.
You can also add a capatcha plugin.
Here is one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/captcha/
or just once a week, look at your comments and delete all comments that don’t have a picture next to them 🙂 It’s the simplest method and very low tech 😉
Thanks for the confirmation about this
wondering about the connection with my email so I changed it
Vicki,
we see your pic now!
Does my picture show up?
Sierra Sue,
nope, your pic is not showing up yet. Check your email address inside gravatar.com
Great advise thanks Christina!
Lois,
Nice to “See” ya! 😉
Christine…
I enjoyed your blog post on the Gravitar even though I’ve been using it for quite some time. I was mainly snooping to get a look at your well designed blog site. I truly enjoyed it!
To your health,
Les
I just signed up at Gravitar. New to me, but it seems like a great idea.
Mitchell,

Hi Christina,
