When building an online business, one of the things you will need, besides your main website, is a “Landing Page” or “Opt-In Page” to help build your list. So what is a “Landing Page,” also known as an “Opt In Page”? In simple English: It’s a way to build your email list by creating a focused webpage for visitors to enter their name and email in exchange for a “goodie.”
You can see my “Landing/OptIn” Page here.
You are going to want to have a “Landing Page” for your business, so that you can send people from your FaceBook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or any ads you run to this page. Here is the Wikipedia definition of a landing page:
In online marketing a landing page, sometimes known as a “lead capture page” or a “lander”, is a single web page that appears in response to clicking on an advertisement. The landing page will usually display directed sales copy that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link. Landing pages are often linked to from social media, email campaigns or search engine marketing campaigns in order to enhance the effectiveness of the advertisements. The general goal of a landing page is to convert site visitors into sales leads. By analyzing activity generated by the linked URL, marketers can use click-through rates and Conversion rate to determine the success of an advertisement.

What a nice article! Very helpful for giving me some idea of how to proceed. Because I don’t know what I want to know. But now I have learned more from your thorough descriptions and examples.

When I’ve tried to create landing pages for clients, WordPress’ default editing and input area just doesn’t handle spacing and formatting nicely, when putting in pics and so forth. I know there are WP ‘products’ or themes that are geared towards creating awesome landing pages, but is that a necessity. Does it require creating it in html to really get a nicely formatted one done?
Cindy,
Yes, WordPress can be finicky when it comes to formatting. It can really drive me nuts sometimes! So look for themes that have the formatting you like, cause they have thought it through. My favorite collection is my own from http://www.thebestthemes.com
Christina,
I’m looking forward to learning about landing pages and how they work. I’m such a newbie I don’t have questions, and learn a lot from the webinars and what others are asking.

How much copy is too much? You want to entice your visitors to buy, but not give so much info that they tire of it, and become discouraged.
Anita,
How much copy is too much, is the million dollar question. The answer is as much as it needs, and as little as it needs
