As we head into the Holiday weekend, if you are like me, you probably don’t want to think about doing any work. I know I don’t! I want to head to the beach and read and do some big picture planning.
Well I got a great book for you: “Rework” by Jason Fried of Basecamp It’s an easy fast read book for entrepreneurs who want to get stuff done without any ‘big company’ bureaucrat nonsense. It cuts to the chase and gives you permission to not have a “business plan”, not be boring, and get your entrepreneurial life going with a virtual team and smart decision making.
I love Jason Fried because I’m a big fan of his Basecamp system: a simple easy to use project management tool that let’s me collaborate with my team anywhere in the world on any computer. Basecamp makes doing projects fun and easy, and that’s what this book is about: making your entrepreneur life fun and easy (and profitable!)
For the internet lifestyle, this is a MUST! It reads like a novel and is a quick page turner. Take it with you to the pool or beach. 🙂 You can pick it up a copy of this book on Amazon Here
If you got a good reading book suggestion for the summer, leave it below…
Another great (and quick) read is TRIBES by Seth Godin. Great inspiration for those of us with passion about making a difference!
That is a good one, I’ve read it and love it!
Hi Christina:
Thanks for the info about this book.
I would love to send you a copy of my book: http://www.budurl.com/tkpk
It would be a great honor, indeed, for me to have you read it.
Best wishes,
Alan Stransman
Alan,
I would love a copy of your book!

Thanks for this recommendation, Christina. To add to the book list started by you and Sylvia, I just started reading Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose by Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos. It reads a lot like a memoir with great biz tips as the aside. Happy 4th of July to you too!
Debra,
Thanks for that reminder on the Zappos book!
When you are done with it, let me know how it is, cause I’ve been wanting to read it
Just finished reading Reworks. It’s every bit as good as people are proclaiming it to be. Be careful when you read it–it will challenge some of your established business concepts and inspire you to new actions. Good recommendation, Christina. Happy 4th.
Al,
Isn’t “Rework” a fast read?
I love that it gives me permission not to have a “business plan” I always thought those formal documents were a waste of time!
I do think that you should have a goal and a mission and a passion for your business. To me that is the “business plan”
Christina,
I have multiple books that I have purchased and need to set aside the time to read.
The two books that have my interest right now as it relates to my music passion are:
You Can’t Always Get What You Want – Sam Cutler iPhone edition
http://goo.gl/CBnq
Sam Cutler was the road manager for The Rolling Stones and The Grateful Dead. Does he have the stories and memories let me tell you. He narrates the book and his voice is great to listen to as I take my morning walks iPhone in hand.
Just Kids – Patti Smith
http://goo.gl/Ztvd
Patti autographed this for us at her reading at the 92nd St Y in NYC
Its a wonderful read that I sip slowly like vintage wine. her love with Robert Maplethorpe and her prose are divine.
Ed,
I know how you feel. So many books, so little time to read them all. I used to to to the 92nd St Y in NYC when I was a kid!
🙂
Three books I’m currently reading would probably only interest people who live in eastern Canada, but one never knows. They are non-fiction:
HALIFAX, The First 250 Years by Judith Fingard, Janet Guildford, and David Sutherland.
WARTIME HALIFAX by WILLIAM D. NAFTEL
HALIFAX AT WAR by WILLIAM D. NAFTEL
I also just finished Carol Burnett’s biography. I also enjoy reading short stories of the 1950s and 1960s.
Thank you for letting me post this, Christina Hills.
Barry,
Autobiographies are something that I want to read more of because you can learn so much from the life stories of other’s who have paved the way for u. Carol Burnett was an amazing woman.
