When you’re building an online business – whether you’re selling products or offering services – you should focus on your client’s experience FIRST. Then, work backward and match your service with the desired customer experience.
When was the last time you thought about your service from your client’s point of view? A strong focus on customer experience is critical to running a successful business.
Focus on Your Client’s Experience First
What kind of experience do you want to give your customers? Be specific! This might be a great time to use mind mapping to brainstorm your ideas.
- What incredible benefits can I give my client?
- Where am I taking my client?
- What transformation do I want my client to have?
- How do I want my clients to feel when they use my product?
- What value does my service bring that the customer didn’t have before?
- What do I want my customers to say about my product?
Now, you have a list of desired customer experience outcomes. Next, work backward to develop a product or service that will get your customer there.
Steve Jobs Video
I found a Steve Jobs video on this topic, and he has a great way of looking at things and explaining things:
Repeat and Review Regularly
Use this strategy whenever you develop a new service or program. Don’t start with an awesome product idea and then try to figure out how to sell it. Start with the customer’s experience and work backward to develop your product or service.
It’s worth reviewing on a regular basis. Am I delivering the customer experience I’m striving for? Where is my program falling short? Where is it exceeding expectations?
How I Focus on My Client Experience First
I’ve learned how important the customer experience is in my own business, the Website Creation Workshop™. We equip our students with the skills, tools, and support they need to create a WordPress website – even if they’re not techie.
Our students walk away with a fantastic website that fits who they are and the change they want to make in the world. In addition, they gain many skills that make it easier for them to grow and adapt their business. We have many examples of non-techie business owners who successfully created their own websites with the Website Creation Workshop™.
