When you need to drive to a place you’ve never been to, what do you do?

Enter the address in the navigation system of your car? Use Google Maps from your smartphone or desktop? Or ask the guy at the gas station?

Whatever method you use, you first need to find a map to figure out how to get to your destination and get there in the most efficient manner. Otherwise, you would easily get lost at some point or end up spending too much time getting to your destination.

The same can be said about building a website. You should first find a road map so that you can successfully achieve your goal without wasting unnecessary time! Here is one example of how mapping out your plan BEFORE building a website could save you time, money, and frustration.

What is the Purpose of Your Website?

A website can do a variety of things. You can show off your services/products. Or you can set it up as a place where people can purchase your stuff. A website can be a place where they can contact you.

In most cases, you want your website as a place where your visitors can TAKE ACTION. Here are some examples of “actions”:

  • signing up for a newsletter
  • purchasing your products/services
  • contacting you for a free discovery consultation
  • engaging in a conversation via blog comments
  • clicking on an advertisement
  • etc…

Whatever action you want your website visitors to take should be your main focus during the website design process. Otherwise, you’ll end up getting a website that doesn’t accomplish your goals after you’ve just spent lots of time and money.

The above, of course, is just one of many things you want to work on during the website planning stage.

In order to save you from wasting hours of your life (and a few headaches as well), I’d like to share with you the simple Road Map I developed and personally use whenever I develop a new website!

It’s called The Essential Website Road Map for Non-Techies.
