Steve Jobs is a man we all have admired for a long time. And his “Secret to Success” is a philosophy that I believe has contributed to my success online, and it is what I teach my students.
Here is a short 1 minute clip where Steve Jobs shares his “Secret to Success”, see if this resonates with you.
Entrepreneurs need to listen to this, because to build a successful online business, you need to be passionate about and love what you are doing. There will be times when you question yourself, when it gets hard, and when you have setbacks.
So if you don’t love what you do, then it’s not worth it. And life is short.
Are you doing what you love to do? If not, why?
This is why I changed from coaching to being a virtual assistant. I absolutely love all that techy stuff others struggle with and the results were instantaneous. I now have more clients than ever, people want to work with me and I am making more money than I ever did as a coach. I still enjoy coaching and I am able to bring those skills to my VA clients. Deciding to follow what I love the most has made a huge difference in my life and business.
Caroline,
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing
What a powerful message packed into 1 minute… Thank you so much for sharing this Christina. It’s a shame to have lost this man so young but we at least need to be thankful we had him for a little while. Think of how different our lives are today because of Steve Jobs. I so wish I could have met him in person. Just to be so close to that amazing energy must have been incredible.
I wish I had seen him speak in person. I never went to any of the Apple conferences
Christina, thank you for sharing this with us. He is such a great example of someone who lived his life to the fullest and accomplished so much in his relatively short lifespan. He is a true inspiration for those of us who want to make a big impact with our life’s work. You can’t let yourself lose sight of the big picture during life’s everyday challenges. And always work with the end in mind…think about what you want your legacy to the world to be.
Lisa,
very well put. Yes, I like to watch this video whenever I need a little boost of passion and inspiration
Thank you for posting this Video. It came to me today when I was thinking ok. no more I gave up. And then when Steve said ” It’s so hard and you have to do it over a sustainable time “. I understood that I have to persevere. that I have to keep having the passion and the love that I have for my invention even when is hard . I have to keep believing on how many parents I am going to help. How many lives I am going to save.
Thank you,
Martha
Martha,
Yes, stay focused on your goal and your passion. If you believe that you have the solution for folks, and that you are helping them, then you are on the right track and you won’t give up!
🙂
He spoke from the inside out. His passion always showed. What a mentor for the rest of us.
Ken,
I actually saw Jobs at a party I was at in San Francisco years ago. I was going to go up to him and talk to him, (this must have been in 1986), but he was always busy with other folks.
I now regret not having taken that opportunity.
I’m so sad he is gone, not just because I love Apple products, but because he is a shining beacon of following your dreams in the face of oppositions
Thank you for sharing this Christina. Sometimes I think I am nuts to be doing all this on-line stuff and should go get a “real” job but I think about it all the time and really do love it. This video gave me inspiration to just keep going.
I think we all have those moments of “I should get a real job”, then I look at the freedom I have controlling my own schedule, and the ability to be more creative as an entrepreneur, and I know I’m in the right place
I’ve seen several Steve Jobs videos in the last couple of days. I believe I like this best of all, because it is so honest and un-sugar-coated in his admission that it’s hard. That admission is missing from a lot of the feel-good, do-what-you-love rhetoric, and to me it adds both power and authenticity to his advice. Thank you for sharing this, Christina.
Elizabeth,
Thanks for your comments
most people don’t comment that it’s hard, because folks don’t want to hear that. But it’s the truth.
Thanks for sharing this video Christina. I find it interesting that I just wrote an EFT meridian tapping script for releasing the guilt and discomfort people experience around not having a “real job” and doing what they love.
Great to hear Steve stress that people should being doing what they love so they can get through the tough times.
Life is too short to NOT do what you love.
Yes, there are mundane things we need to take care of in our businesses, but overall the goal and drive should be towards sharing your gifts with the world.
I thought this was encouraging to hear that Steve Jobs too had to persevere. Sometimes people present success as being easy but it’s not. Like he said it’s alot of hard work and persistence.
I have found this to be true too.
The character quality of perseverance can only be developed by persisting despite difficulties, opposition or discouragement. If you know to expect this on your road to success, you won’t be surprised when it comes.
Great insight from a great man who chose to live his dream.
Thanks for sharing this!

Sharon,
Yes, and having the love of what you do, will carry you through as you are perservering
-Christina
Yes, I agree and having a sense of purpose will carry you too even when some of the things you don’t love, you have to do. 🙂
I, too, think it’s great that he was honest enough to say that it’s hard. With all the hype coming at us in e-mails about how you can make all this money online without doing any work – just go out and have fun and the money will keep rolling in, even when you sleep – I find this statement refreshing to hear. I could have given up many times over the years when success seemed just an illusion, but I enjoy what I do and am determined to keep going no matter what. Though I am very technologically challenged, I have succeeded in putting together my web site and have had good response to the appearance. It took some work, and I had some problems, but they were solved and now I have something that I am very pleased with. I will soon be starting another site – another challenge – and I don’t intend to give up! 🙂
Diane,
and it feels really good, doesn’t it?
Yes, it does feel good. I’m actually amazed at what I have accomplished – never thought I could do it.
That is true empowerment!
Life definitely is short. I think having a clear vision of what it is you want is the single best way to find out what you love. Through the discovery you learn about your passion.
Chase,
I’m glad you mentioned the ‘discovery’ thing. Sometimes we have to try many things to help us discover what/who we are and what/who we are not
I did goal setting coaching for a decade in the eighties, developed a school for underachieving students, and passionately pursued change in public education. It’s been a great life to look back upon, in this eighth decade of life. Steve Job’s commencement comments in 2005 verified this need to “look backward” in order to move forward. I am still moving, by writing my memoir. Many thanks for this post. It reminded me to reread his words and digest them once again as I enjoy my Mac and IPad, products of his creative genius.
What a boost for my day.
I do what I love and it is hard sometimes… so it helps so much to hear someone as successful as Steve Jobs acknowledge that. It’s easy to see others’ success as them having a “natural” talent and think I just don’t have what it takes.
I’ll be watching this again.
Thanks Christina!
Deborah,
Yes, we all look at others and think “It’s so easy”, but we don’t see the hours of work and sweat that goes into their creation.
I too am glad Steve pointed out that it’s hard sometimes.
