The new version of WordPress is finally out!
Here is a short video to show you some of the new features of WP 3.0.
I’m excited to be teaching this new version this summer in my WordPress summer 2010 program
Here are some of the highlights of the new version of WordPress:
– New default theme “2010” which is much more advanced than the default “Kubrick” theme
– New easy way to get your header graphics uploaded and graphics included
– More security with your admin login, and easier updating of the software and plugins
– Custom post types
– Easier way to manage your navigation menus
and more!
Just watch the video at the top and leave a comment with your thoughts
Thanks Christina, your the best. If we are already using 2.0 will it automatically update to 3.0?
Joe,
you can update wordpress from inside your admin dashboard
it will not do it automatically, but it will automatically remind you to update
Christina,
Is it wise to upgrade when all the plugins being used may not be up to 3.0 yet? Do I risk my plugins breaking?
Liz,
if you are concerned, then contact the plugin authors first before upgrading
Thanks for the video on the new version of WordPress – look forward to trying it out soon. Sounds great.
Paula
Paula,
best to test out the new version of WordPress on your student project (Test install) first before doing your real live sites
Thanks this is a great video! What is MU and is that for memberships?
Tim,
WordPress MU is for running multiple versions of wordpress off of one install.
Since this is a merging of two code bases I would personally wait until they shake out any potential bugs that have not been caught
It has been an advanced thing, and I currently do not teach WordPress MU
Thanks Christina for including the video. Really helpful.
Susan,
yes, you will want to watch that video a couple of times. It goes fast and shows a lot
Hi Christina!
Just a note to confirm your geniosity! (if there is such a word!)
I listened to your video twice & made notes. Then updated my student site (grapejuice) which went smoothly as you said it would. Then followed with my 4 regular sites, and all went smooth as silk.
I am not sure that I would have even tried without your guidance.
Thanks a million!
All the best,
Bill,
You are most welcome! It has been great to see you develop all your websites in my workshop.
How many are you up to now?
The credit is yours! I now have 4 up and running, plus a Newsletter that has just gone live, plus a portal site in the works, plus two others currently in the works!
But it is not just the websites. Thanks to you we have a shopping cart up and running, and we have recruited a super, super Virtual Assitant from your roster!
This after having thrown away some $30,000+ in Webmaster fees for nothing I was satisfied with!
Is it any wonder I sing your praises?
All the best,
Bill,
Thank you for sharing, that is a
fabulous testimonial!
I hope that others read it and see what you have accomplished in my WordPress training program.
🙂
I’m afraid I jumped the gun and updated three plugins yesterday in my student project before reading your email about WP3.0. Am I in trouble, or do I just proceed regardless?
Viviane,
That is what the student project is for, to test stuff out. You are probably fine. Click around and see if it’s working. Good to also check with your theme designer to see how the theme is working with WP 3.0
Thank you for posting this video. I just learned so much that I would have missed. Normally, I hit upgrade and go about my business. I may have to try that 2010 theme. It has many features I’ve been looking for 😀
Cheryl,
Yes, 2010 is WAY better than the old kubrick theme. Lots more features. I’m excited to teach it!
Thanks for the video. I had to listen to it a couple of times to take it all in. I find that I scan my emails now for your name as you are becoming my “go-to” person for not only iThemes Flexx, but computers/internet in general. From the video it sounded like you are supposed to deactivate plugins prior to a WordPress update. Is that generally correct, even though it doesn’t seem to be necessary with WordPress 3.0?
Thanks.
Billie,
it used to be that you were supposed to deactivate your plugins before upgrading wordpress. That is what they are referring to.
So now you don’t need to do that, as it’s done automatically.
And thanks for that nice compliment! I like being the ‘go-to’ person for WordPress!
🙂
Thanks for sharing such a short yet excellent video on the new features available in WP3.0. I’ve already updated my blog but didn’t actually look at what changes had been made. Having watched the video twice it’s given me lots of ideas to explore and implement in coming days/weeks.
Annie,
There are now so many possibilities with WP 3.0!
I’m excited to teach it in the new Summer intensive course
http://www.WebsiteCreationSummerCamp.com
🙂
WOW–sounds exciting and can’t wait to start the summer intensive with WP 3.0
Peter,
Looking forward to having you in the summer intensive course.
Now go get your Gravatar image so we can see you!

Thanks for the guidance–your link wouldn’t work for me at this time but went to the web site and it was easy–see you in class
just wanted to see what a different pic looks like–as you all less background
Peter,
woo hoo! you got your picture up!
Since you are registered for the course, go into the members area and leave a comment there.
We start next week, but you can get a jump on everyone as Module 1 is already up for you
🙂
Christina,
I’m so glad I opened your email … this video was a wonderful surprise! I updated two of my WordPress blogs Saturday and noticed the 2010 theme … LOVE IT!!! But I just thought . . . “Hhhhmmmm?!?!? . . . where did that theme come from? I didn’t upload it! Oh, well, I saw it somewhere else and wished I knew where to get it.”
And, BAM!!! my wish was fulfilled. I wish everything else in life, that I want, would magically appears just as quickly!!! 🙂
This video has been helpful. Now I know how to navigate around the Dashboard better and make a lot of changes I would have had to discover by accident had I not seen this video.
Thank you for sharing!
Iris,
I’m so glad you liked this blog post! Now that you got WordPress 3.0 installed, why don’t you get a gravatar picture so that we can see your smiling face 🙂
