Are you ready to have some fun? In preparation for the spring Website Creation Workshop, I’m reviving an old blog video this week. It’s always fun to introduce new readers to content I produced years ago, but that’s still just as relevant today.

“Julia Child” Teaches You WordPress!

If you have a blog or newsletter, shoot for creating evergreen content. Evergreen content doesn’t get stale or outdated. They’re articles that you can pull out a few years from now and share with your current audience, and they’re just as valuable now as they were when you first created them.

Think of a blog post as an article! Your website may have blog posts (or it may not). There are several factors to consider when deciding whether your website should have a blog. It really depends on the nature of your business and the purpose of your website.

Well today, “Julia Child” stopped by with her recipe for creating a blog post…and cooked up a storm in the kitchen.

In this episode – Julia Child Cooks Up a WordPress Blog Post

Here are the steps to create a blog post…

Step 1:  Start with a Good Idea!

You can write a blog post about anything! But be sure that it’s something your readers will be interested in. Otherwise, they’ll move on to a different website or unsubscribe from your newsletter.

(In another article, I share five content creation ideas to help you get started if you need a little inspiration)

Step 2. Write Some Meaty Content!

Now that you’ve thought of your good idea and you’ve designated an empty post, it’s time to write that “meaty” article. Don’t expect to be able to sit down and write a high-quality article in 30 min.

Although there are new AI tools like ChatGPT that can speed up the process, a good blog article might take several hours and lots of revisions.

Always keep your reader in mind and provide delicious ( ie helpful, encouraging, and valuable) content that will keep them coming back for more.

Step 3. Create a Catchy Title

Creating a catchy title is key to getting people to read your blog article. First off, figure out the main point or theme of your post.

Then, try to capture what makes it interesting or unique in the title. Keep it short and sweet, so readers know exactly what they’re getting into.

Use exciting words like action verbs or questions to make it more attention-grabbing. For example:

“The Ultimate Guide to Planning Your Dream Vacation”
“5 Simple Habits to Boost Your Productivity and Focus”
“The Top 7 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Small Business”

Step 4: Spice up Your Blog Post with Keywords

And don’t forget to sprinkle in some SEO (Search Engine Optimization) keywords to make it more discoverable on search engines. How? Research relevant and popular keywords related to your topic. Then, use these keywords in your title, meta description, and throughout your post in a natural and relevant way.

Step 5: Publish Your Post!

The last step is to publish your post to the world.  Send it out via email to your subscribers using an email marketing system like Convert Kit, Aweber, Active Campaign, or many others.

It’s time to enjoy the fruit of your labor and engage with your readers through their responses! Bon Appetit!
