I’ve been to a lot of WordCamps as a speaker and also as an attendee in the past, and just can’t say enough about WordCamps! During the two info-packed days, you’ll get to hear from so many WordPress experts, offering sessions for WordPress users at various skill levels. The event organizers and speakers are all volunteers who purely love WordPress and are willing to give back to the WordPress community. No sales pitch; it’s a pure learning opportunity. (Oh, and a cool T-shirt, lunches, and a ticket to the after-party are also included in your $40 ticket.) If you are interested in attending the WordCamp Los Angeles 2016, you should sign up now, as it normally fills up quickly.

When you build a website in WordPress, one of the things that you need to do in an early stage is to select a theme. But if you are new to WordPress, going through these themes and evaluate them can be easily overwhelming! How do you know what to look for in a theme and decide if it’s right for your website?
That’s what I’ll be talking about at the upcoming WordCamp Los Angeles 2016.
If you are not super familiar with WordPress, a theme provides the look and feel of a website. Many themes also come bundled with various useful and nifty functions. By using a theme that has the right components/functions for what you need for your website, you could build your WordPress website very quickly and easily.
Picking a WordPress theme is a lot of fun. As of the writing of this article, there are over 4,000 free WordPress themes available in at WordPress.org, and there are even more premium themes sold by independent WordPress theme companies and via marketplaces (services that WordPress developers/designers use to sell their original themes, plugins, and more).
In this session, I will be discussing: “How to Pick a WordPress Theme: a Guide for Beginners”
-
The difference between free themes and premium (paid) themes
-
What to look for when choosing a WordPress theme (make sure it’s mobile responsive too!)
-
What is a ‘child theme’ and when/why you need it
-
Plus answers to your theme questions!
Even if you are not a beginner, you’ll benefit from learning what to look for when you are choosing a theme so that you will be more efficient in the process and also avoid choosing a wrong theme (which unfortunately happens way too often).
